declutter

a philosophy

Okay. I know decluttering is awful.
You may even be thinking

Ain't nobody got time for dat!

Looking into the abyss
of a space stuffed with junk
is like

opening the door and screaming

and you really don't want to do it.

But take it from me:
you CAN fight clutter!

baby steps

Try this little exercise:
pick out one random "box o' junk"
and start going through it.

throwing stuff might help your frustration levels, too

Sort its contents
according to these questions:

Do you absolutely love it? Is it irreplaceable AND important?
KEEP IT.
Would it be more useful or meaningful to someone else?
DONATE IT.
Is it ruined, replaceable, and/or unmemorable?
RECYCLE/UPCYCLE IT.

be ruthless.

This exercise might make you feel like

no no no no I can't throw that away!

but really, truly ask yourself:
"is this thing making my life better
by keeping it?"

persevere!

At times while working on
this first box,
you will feel like

utterly disgusted right now

and

crushing everything in sight

and

jumping out the window rather than dealing with it

I know.
It can feel boring, frustrating
and just argghhgjhgjgh.

But if you keep at it,
you will also find
great stuff you even forgot you had

total surprise!!

AND you'll start regaining control
over your space

they will be so happy! and so will you!

AND you can make someone's day
with your donations!

better than expected!

the next steps

Once you've decluttered this first box,
do another box, or another small area of your house.
Every day, declutter at least one space,
even if it's tiny!

As you declutter, also dust and sweep/vacuum each space
so that you're motivated to keep it clear.
You will be so happy you did!

much happy!

Oh, and by the way,
DON'T BUY ORGANIZATION BOXES.
JUST DON'T.

IT'S A TRAP!

Why?
Because organization boxes
actually end up as MORE junk.
Really. Seriously.
Just HAVE LESS STUFF,
and you won't NEED more storage.

mind-blowing revelation!

RIGHT?!

Anyway, enough of my pep talk.
GO DECLUTTER!
GO WIN BACK YOUR LIVING SPACE!!

run and do it!
